They look similar to insoles but are biomedical appliances that are custom-made to correct your specific foot imbalance. An evaluation would be needed to determine if you need custom orthotics. However, since everything we do starts with the feet – it could be a source of kinetic chain dysfunction. So orthotics could provide immediate support and relief while Dr. T determines how to correct, rebuild, and repair the foot so orthotics may not be needed long term. Short term, however, they are an incredible tool that allows us to put the foot in the best position possible, thus helping the kinetic chain function properly.

This is another situation where custom orthotics should be examined as a possible cure. Often times, in situations where we stand for prolonged periods of time – our posture universally starts to deteriorate. This deterioration can lead to lower cross syndrome and a plethora of other lower body dysfunction as our ability to stand with strong posture begins with the feet. Orthotics can help delay this deterioration and allow us to mitigate long periods of standing by offering support where we need it most.

Absolutely not, orthotics are a tool that serve a purpose in our recovery system. Much like many other tools, they may not be needed forever and also shouldn’t be used as a panacea for all of our individual issues.
